It's been a few weeks...One Room Challenge...Garden Party+Outdoor Kitchen - weeks 5 & 6!

The world has changed since we last visited and although we’ve been through trials and tears, unknowns and fears; it seems right to share my family’s most coveted and safest of spaces which has gone through some changes and growth to morph into a better place for us to commune together…hopefully, much like our greater world is becoming more mindful & active in rooting out any and all injustice as it relates to race in America. To help promote a better understanding of this, Better Homes & Gardens & the team at @oneroomchallenge decided to merge weeks 5 & 6 to leave more space to reflect, educate and elevate… These last few weeks have personally given me a greater understanding of the difficulties plaguing our brothers and sisters as well as renewed clarity that i need to be the change i want to see in the world.

Speaking of change, come along as I show you what has transpired since our last One Room Challenge Update…

Growing the patio…

Since we posted our posts as one of the first items of business; it was now time to extend the depth of our patio! The previous patio was realigned after we purchased the house 6 years ago so to save some expense; we decided to just tag on additional layers of brick to bring it out to join the posts and give us ample room for an outdoor sitting area and dining area!

Closing the Gap…

Just before finishing up this run of bricks; I asked my awesome tradesman, Samuel, to run a water line to my countertop area because if timing and budget allowed; I for sure want an outdoor faucet!

Everything but the kitchen sink…

Next up was the kitchen side of our outdoor patio - time for an upgrade!

Because the outdoor kitchen was a brand new patio; i elected to have the brick laid in a herringbone pattern - LOVE!

There are so many wonderful things already that these bricks and the talented hands carefully laying them have given our family both for now & well into the future and the lesson is not lost on me. Next up is ceiling fan addition, patio drainage (not without trouble of course!) and lighting so that when one is dining al fresco, it’s never in the dark! Many thanks to all of you for following along…2 more weeks until completion - eek! Please check out some of the other ORC & BHG entrants here www.oneroomchallenge.com/orc-blog - so fun to watch the growth! xoxo geralyn
